A Penthouse in Heaven

The Pope dies and goes to heaven. When he gets there, Saint Peter shows him to his new quarters which turn out to be a tiny one bedroom apartment.

The Pope is horrified and wants to know why he doesn't have the penthouse apartment, which is huge.

Saint Peter informs him that the resident of the penthouse is a lawyer.

"A lawyer," says the Pope. "But I'm the Pope, surely I'm more important."

"With respect Sir," says Saint Peter, "We have lots of Pope's up here, but we only have ONE lawyer!"

The Bridge of Peace by Cindy Woodsmall

The publisher says:

Love alone isn’t enough to overcome some obstacles.

Lena Kauffman is a young Old Order Amish schoolteacher who has dealt all her life with attention raised by a noticeable birthmark on her cheek. Having learned to move past the stares and whispers, Lena channels her zest for living into her love of teaching. But tensions mount as she is challenged to work with a rebellious young man and deal with several crises at the schoolhouse that threaten her other students. Her lack of submission and use of ideas that don’t line up with the Old Ways strengthen the school board’s case as they begin to believe that Lena is behind all the trouble.

One member of the school board, Grey Graber, feels trapped by his own stifling circumstances. His wife, Elsie, has shut him out of her life, and he doesn’t know how long he can continue to live as if nothing is wrong. As the two finally come to a place of working toward a better marriage, tragedy befalls their family.

Lena and Grey have been life-long friends, but their relationship begins to crumble amidst unsettling deceptions, propelling each of them to finally face their own secrets. Can they both find a way past their losses and discover the strength to build a new bridge?

I say:

I was only going to read a few pages and go to bed. I ended up reading the whole book. It just drew me in and before I knew it I was done. It is book two in a series. I didn't read the first book and I think it would have been better reading them in order. But it stands alone very well. I'm going to reading more of Cindy Woodsmall in the future. I really enjoyed The Bridge of Peace.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Crazy Cats - 4th cat

I finished my fourth cat and wanted to show it. I think it's my favorite so far. Of course they're all my favorites when I'm making them. I'll wait and make the faces after all the cats are done.

You can find the patterns Crazy Cats BOM here http://www.syverkstan.net/catbom.htm.

Design Wall Monday – 4/25/11

Storms, power outages, and not being home kept me from sewing as much as I wanted too. I managed to make three of the cat from the Crazy Cats BOM. One more and I'll be caught up.

That little pieced piece is the tail for the fourth cat..

Birthday Cards

I was cleaning (getting rid of stuff I don't need) again and found an embroidery disc for greeting cards. I need two birthday cards for next month so I decided to make them instead of buying them.  I had the orange card stock and used a bright cheerful thread. I think they turned out pretty.

I folded the card stock in half and glued it together. So it's a postcard instead on a traditional card. Then cut it out with pinking shears. I'm going to make my Christmas cards like this too.

The disc is from OESD called Stitched with Love. It says "your free gift" on it so you probably can't buy buy it. The website on the box is www.embroideryonline.com.

I'm making my cats out of brights and putting them on black. Here's the fabric I picked for the first cat.

Quilt Club 2011

This year the quilt shop I visit most often is using Thangles for their quilt club. They are offering three different ways to make it, Thimbleberries fabric, batiks, or purple. I picked batiks. If you make it their way it makes a twin size quilt. I however want a larger quilt. Some of the ladies are buying two blocks. I however am using using my stash.

This is month one's blocks. The orange fabrics came out of my stash.

Month two blocks are finished too. The purple is out of my stash.

My Mom's in the club too and "she's" using Thimbleberries fabrics. See how she's in quotes. That's because she has me sewing them for her!  She doesn't want a larger quilt so no extra blocks for her.
