Sad but almost true

Spot On

I tried that thing today at the gas station where you try and stop the pump bang on what you want to pay, but let it go a fraction too late and it stopped on $20.03.

"Rats!" I shouted and walked into the shop to pay.

"Unlucky, pal," smiled the attendant, who'd seen what I'd done. "Don't worry about the extra."

"Thanks, pal," I said as I handed him my ten bucks and split.

Week 5 - Stash Report

This week is bad! But I can explain.

I was a second place winner in the Holiday Fab Shop Hop. They sent me 4 yards of black and white fabrics.

I had to go to Wal-mart and they had a big sign on the door that said "Fabric Clearance 50% Off". The last remaining Wal-mart to sell fabric (around here anyway) won't be selling fabric anymore. It had been on sale all week and I didn't know it! Most of the good stuff was gone but I did find some that needed to come home with me. I bought 2 pieces to make summer shirts and two pieces for quilting. I also found some batting that was 50% cotton and 50% bamboo.

Used this Week: .25 yards
Used year to Date: 3.925 yards
Added this Week: 20 yards
Added Year to Date: 21.5 yards
Net Used for 2011: -16.075 yards

Now I have to get busy and get out of the hole.

Quilt Club 2011 - Month One

Month one blocks are done!

Bangety Bang Bang!

Seems there was a young soldier, who, just before battle, told his sergeant that he didn't have a rifle.

"That's no problem, son," said the sergeant. "Here, take this broom. Just point it at the Germans, and go 'Bangety Bang Bang'."

"But what about a bayonet, Sarge?" asked the young (and gullible) recruit.

The sergeant pulls a piece of straw from the end of the broom, and attaches it to the handle end. "Here, use this... just go, 'Stabity Stab Stab'."

The recruit ends up alone on the battlefield, holding just his broom. Suddenly, a German soldier charges at him. The recruit points the broom, "Bangety Bang Bang!" The German falls dead.

More Germans appear. The recruit, amazed at his good luck, goes "Bangety Bang Bang! Stabity Stab Stab!" He mows down the enemy by the dozens. Finally, the battlefield is clear, except for one German soldier walking slowly toward him.

"Bangety Bang Bang! shouts the recruit. The German keeps coming. "Bangety Bang Bang!" repeats the recruit, to no avail. He gets desperate. "Bangety Bang Bang! Stabity Stab Stab!" It's no use.

The German keeps coming. He stomps the recruit into the ground, and says, "Tankety Tank Tank."

Mom's Coupon Keeper

My Mom liked my coupon keeper and wanted one of her own. But not for coupons. She thought it would make a nice wallet. I thought it was a little big for a wallet. So I took 2 inches off the top and side of the pattern. You can't see it but there is a dollar in it because you can't give a money holder without some money in it. Can you? Mom picked out the fabric not me! Again the pattern is from A Happy Little Family.

Design Wall Monday – 1/24/11

Nothing on the wall! So no picture. My scarf is in the same place as last week. I did finish sewing and cutting the denim quilt (part of my back pain along with shoveling snow). I'll try to get a picture later.

My back is much better today. It's a little stiff but not as painful.

Design Wall Monday – 1/17/11

I saw this yarn at Hobby Lobby and had to have it. It's so pretty! I'm making a scarf. It's just knitting! Nothing fancy like pearling or anything else. I can only knit! Bless my Mom for putting up with my knitting questions and helping me!!!

I worked on the denim quilt it. Doesn't look like much does it?

Coupon Keeper

One of my resolutions this year is to save money. So I needed something simple to organize coupons. I made this in December and finally put last weeks coupons in it. I found this free pattern at A Happy Little Family. I picked two pieces of fabric that I had and were the right size. The only thing I changed was I used 2 layers of cut away stabilizer for the batting. It only took about an hour to make.

The categories I used are: mean/dairy/produce, cereal/breakfast/bread, baking, boxed/canned food, frozen, snacks, personal/medicine, pet, cleaning/household, and store coupons.

Week 3 Stash Report

I only sewed one day this week! Not sure what happened. I finished the pineapple (I already counted that fabric) and started on the denim quilt (I'm not counting it because it was jeans and it was cut last year).

I joined a quilt club for 2011. We're making a quilt using Thangles. I'm not adding that fabric because you get two strips of fabric just enough to make two blocks. Which I WILL make this week. Then you use stash or buy the fabric to finish the quilt. I will count that.

No Candy!!!!

Yesterday was the first time in forever that I didn't eat any candy! And I lost 3 pounds!!! I'm so excited! Can you tell? If I can stay away from candy I'll have it made.

Pineapple

The pineapple is done! My first finished project of 2011. I was going to hang it on the wall but Stinker claimed it. She likes laying on it and playing with the leaves. It was so cute I didn't have the heart to take it away from her. So I think I'll make another one to hang on the wall.
The pattern is in the Fall 2007 issue of Quilts and More.

Design Wall Monday – 1/10/11

Last weeks yellows and greens are almost finished. I just have to sew down the binding and attach the leaves. Then figure out how to hand it on the wall without the leaves hanging down like they are in the picture.
After I finish the pineapple I'm going to sew these 6 inch squares to make a denim rag quilt.  They're all old jeans that I cut up last year. Now they are just in the way when I want to make something else.

Fleece Shag Rugs

I made these a couple of years ago. Stinker coughed up a hairball on one of them. So I washed both of them and thought it would be a good time to take a picture.

I think the pattern was a free one from Hancock Fabrics.
